Callosa (Costa Blanca):
This attractive working town lies inland on the main
route to Alcoy and offers a contrast from the coast
in climate and lifestyle. Most properties are rural
although improvements in the road systems have led to
a number of developers moving into the area. Weekenders
from the busy cities in the area have discovered that
it is a good compromise as the prices are often lower
than the coast even though it has had its share of development
in recent times.
Visitors using the popular tourist route up the hair-raising
road to the spectacular ancient tiny walled town of
Guadalest pass through the town and would do well to
explore it.
This area is one of Spain's leading cultivated areas
for nisperos (which we know as medlars) and are a delicious
fruit similar in size and taste to apricots.or oranges. These
are often grown on large estates run from magnificent
stone built fincas and in the spring the trees are a
beautiful sight. From a distance the trees can be mistaken
for heavily laden orange trees but on closer inspection
it is the nispero crop ready for harvest .
