Denia (Costa Blanca)
An attractive fishing port full of character, Denia
is a rare gem which manages to combine a working Spanish
town with an excellent tourist resort. The two cohabit
harmoniously and ensure that the town is not deserted
during the winter season . It lies at the base of the
massive Montgo mountain which dominates the southern
end of the town and shelters it from the hot winds of
central Spain . It has its own surprising microclimate
which was once helpful to an industry which revolved
around raisin production and the making of a sweet liqueur
called "la mistela".
Cultural concerts and exhibitions feature strongly
in the social calendar with events often taking place
on the attractive streets under the shadow of the dramatic
castle. Sitting on a rock promontory almost on the edge
of the sea this protected the town in troubled times.
Regular ferries run from the modern marina to the Balearic
island of Ibiza which can be seen on a clear day from
the higher points of the town.
There are beaches for all tastes from the long sandy
ones towards Els Poblets and the rocky promenade which
lines the coast at Les Rotes. A thriving marina is home
to boats of all kinds , some of which offer coast hopping
trips down to Javea, Calpe and Altea.
It has recently become home to a large out of town
shopping area where you will be spoilt for choice with
furniture, beds and other essentials for your new home.
La Sella Golf Resort is situated a little inland and
the greens offer a combination fantastic mountain views
with proximity to the sparkling Mediterranean . Properties
in this area are popular with golfers all year round
and non-golfers can be pampered at one of the treatment
centres serving the area. Rental incomes from properties
around La Sella have proved to give a good return for
those periods when owners are not in residence.
