CLIMATE
The climate is Mediterranean with mild winters
and hot, dry summers. This exceptional climate
is due to its geographical location protected
from the cold north winds by the Sierras and its
sub-tropical latitude means that it enjoys 3,000
hours of sunshine a year with average temperatures
between 10º in January and 25º in August.
BEACHES
The eastern part of the Costa del Sol has approximately
30 kilometres of long, sandy beaches lined with
“chiringuitos” as the beach restaurants
are called where you can eat paella, shell fish
and sardines roasted on the BBQ all washed down
with the local sangria. Sailing, windsurfing,
scuba diving are all popular pastimes and at sunset
you can still see the local fishermen hauling
in the nets with their catch of silvery fish.
Here is also one of the longest promenades on
the Costa del Sol along which to enjoy a stroll
or stop for refreshments at one of the many restaurants,
bars & cafes.
SPORTS
Apart from water sports, most urbanizations have
swimming pools & some boast tennis courts.
There are golf courses at Rincon de la Victoria,
Nerja and Torrox. Several companies organise horse
trekking and hiking along coastal trails as well
as into the sierras.
SHOPPING
Apart from local shops & supermarkets, there
are 2 large shopping malls & multiplex cinema
complex in Rincon de Victoria and Velez-Malaga.
Many arts and crafts with their origins rooted
in the Moorish past including ceramics, leatherwork,
wicker & grass bags and baskets can be purchased
from craftsmen working in the inland villages.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Palaeolithic caves at Nerja where ballet and
operatic spectacles are staged in June.
